Neither Hair nor there

Although we're all aware of the damage to our skin that the sun can cause - ageing, often  hair is forgotten when considering sun care.

ageing

The UVA and UVB rays that reach the earth penetrate the hair shaft and can leave your hair looking brittle, dry and thin.

Put a Lid on it

The outside wrapping of the hair - the cuticle - receives  the most damage from UVA and UVB rays. The hair cells become dry and flaky, leaving hair lifeless and dehydrated with split and broken ends. These damaging rays can also penetrate to the cortex causing further irreparable damage. This damage can be permanent and may force you to chop off the offenders and start over.

The best protection for the hair is to shade it from sun exposure with a wide-brimmed hat: this will also help to keep your face out of the sun and avoid unnecessary burns and ageing. Make sure to keep the ends well-protected!
